Relaxation is the key to great freeflying. It sounds Zen but it's the fact Jack. When first trying to get head down, try this.
STEP 1. Solo poised exit. Face the rear of the plane, left hand on the bar, trail the right leg. Stare at the aircraft's tail and let go...don't jump, just let go. Watch the tail fly over you...count 1-1000, 2-1000, 3-1000, !!do not arch!!, deep breathe in then out, then begin to look for the horizon.
During this manuever is your best opportunity to watch your own body position, take a second to look at your leg and arm positions. Perhaps even move them around a little.
STEP 2. As you begin to accelerate you will notice your body movements will have more effect. Although you want to be fluid, at this point it is crucial that you begin to fly your body. Just like belly flyers must keep their legs out some at all times to stay in a formation, you must control yourself to stay head down. Make sure your arms are out to your sides about even with your rib cage. Make sure your legs are bent at 45 degree angles and are even. Your back should be relatively straight. If you can master this exit and remain uncorked for 15 seconds, you are well on your way!!:-)
